Hackers Have Hacked Twitter Employees

The published report said one or more hackers phoned several Twitter employees to say they were from the help desk in Twitter’s IT department, and that the Twitter hack began around noon on July 14, 2020. Claiming to be responding to a reported problem with Twitter’S VPN service, hackers remotely tried to direct employees to a phishing website that looked the same as the Twitter VPN website and had a similarly named domain.

Although this website they were redirected to did not ask for two-factor authentication from Twitter employees, cybercriminals managed to infiltrate Twitter by convincing them to authenticate. Hackers used employees ‘ publicly available personal information to reassure employees. Although some employees reported the hackers ‘ phone calls to Twitter’s fraud monitoring team, the belief of at least one employee gave enough permission for the hack to occur.
